Use the resources posted below to learn more about the origins of the conflict in Syria. Please pay attention to the dates on the information that you discover. Describe an event in your life that has changed your behavior ever since. For example, do you something a certain way because of something that happened to you in the past. Please post your example at your class' link below.
So You've Conquered Iraq
While the 2003 Invasion of Iraq was successful in toppling Saddam Hussein's regime, the issues in Iraq did not end there. In fact, you could argue that they only became more complicated and lead to more problems in the region including the creation of ISIS. Check out the video below to learn more about the connection between Iraq and ISIS.
How We Get From Iraq to ISISThe Lessons of Iraq
Just as we talked about at the beginning of class, there are lessons to be learned from our involvement in Iraq. Lessons that we could apply to Syria. Read the four articles on the Lessons from Iraq and completethis graphic organizer. As you read look for what each of the four authors feel the lessons from Iraq are and how could the United States use those lessons to guide our involvement in Syria. When you are done, please submit your work to the Lessons of Iraq assignment on eBackpack.
Today we are going to watch the documentary He Named Me Malala and learn her story. As you watch, I want you to think about what cause you would advocate for if you had the influence of Malala. Please submit your answer to eBackpack and explain why you chose the cause that your did. Look the for the assignment the Power of Malala. Don't Forget Your ProjectsDo not forget that your Iraq Invasion projects are due in our next class. I'm looking forward to seeing the hard work you have put it.
Your To-Do ListToday is an opportunity to continue working on your project. If you've kept up with the assignment to this point, you should have an outline to work from. Today's tasks should then include
A Change In DeadlineI've decided to give you guys a little more time to work on your project. Gold classes will need to turn in their project on Wednesday, March 23rd and Maroon classes will need to turn it in on Thursday, March 24th. What Is Evidence? While sitting at the hospital with my family, I got a chance to take a look at your outlines for your project. There was one area that many of you struggled with: gathering evidence. Remember that evidence is not a continuation of your reasons. It is not something that can be debated. Think about the argument I made for ice cream being the best food in the world. I used the fact that there are lots of places you can get ice cream. I need to offer specific examples that can't be argued with. I think the slideshow below proves my point. These are all the places I see between TA and where I live. What evidence can you offer to support your reasons that can't be argued with. If you can't find that, what experts can you call on who support your point of view. Think about using the quotes to help you with this.
Good luck and send more questions my way. Your To-Do List
Your To-Do List
When you have completed your work, post which option you prefer and why to your class' padlet below. Remember that this task will be counted as a grade. Your Homework
Brokered Conventions and Super DelegatesMany of you have asked me about brokered conventions (we hear about it more with the Republicans) and super delegates (in this case it's more about the Democrats) and I have not been able to give you a good answer. I hope this link on brokered conventions and this one on super delegates will answer more of your questions than I could.
Your To-Do ListPlease head to the "What is the United States' Duty?" section from the previous class' post and answer the two questions posed there. What Should the U.S. Senate Do?
Options for Iraq in 2003The first step of your project is to gain an understanding of the different policy options you can support as senator. Please complete this activity for the four options. Hard copies of the activity are available. Please see eBackpack for the reading on the options.
You are expected to have completed the graphic organizer and posted your initial opinion to a class Padlet by the end of our next class. |
