Congratulations you've made it to the end of our course and the end of the school year. It's time to get working on your final.
At the beginning of the semester we looked at what your most important values were and we discussed several policy options or philosophies for the United States. Now that we have studied terrorism, Syria (their civil war and their refugee crisis), climate change, and countless issues that you have brought to class during TCB, what do you feel the guiding principles for our country should be when addressing events in this changing world? Your task for the final is to address that issue. Check out the assignment here. There are more resources on eBackpack to help you through the process as well. I would like you to follow the process below as you create your final.
You have the remaining two classes to complete your work on this project. During that time, I would also like some feedback on how the course as a whole went this semester. What can I improve on for next year? Are there topics that I should add or delete? Are there elements of class that I should make sure I keep or remove? Please record your feedback here to help me do a better job for your classmates next year. Please keep in mind as you attack all of these tasks, that while you have time in class to complete these tasks, I expect that you will spend time outside of class working on them as well. Your final due dates are below.
Good luck and let me know how I can help you! Your to-do listPlease return to our last class' post and take out the questions on the history of climate change denial. We will begin by reviewing the answers to the questions on the New York Times' The Daily podcast. Six Word StoriesWhat happened during James Comey's testimony?Head to AllSides and look for three articles, one from the center, right, and left, on James Comey's testimony and the reaction to it. Gather information on the graphic organizer I have provided you with. Based on what you learn, please create three six word stories about this event and post them to your class' link below. Your finalWhile we will being our final and spend our last two meetings together working on it starting in our next class, I wanted to give you a heads up on what you will be doing. Click here to find out more.
Your to-do listPlease complete your work on President Trump's address regarding the Paris Climate Accord. Head to the last class' post for the resources that you need. The History of Climate Change DenialWe've talked a lot about climate science over the course of this unit? What about those people who do not believe that humans are impacting the climate? Where, when and how did that movement start? Let's investigate. The CastPlease listen to the New York Times' The Daily podcast from June 6th, 2017 and answer the questions that I have provided you with. Remember that the Pelosi/Gingrich ad was made in 2008. Check out Newt Gingrich's stance on the ad from 2011. The PrequelMore charactersThe New York Times doesn't tell the whole story. Let's add in NPR's The United States of Anxiety: Culture Wars' second episode: The Birth of Climate Change Denial. Please continue answering the questions that I have provided you with. Your to-do list
What do you know about President Trump's statement to pull the United States out of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement? Please post what you have heard to your class' padlet below.
What went down in the Rose Garden?
At 3 PM last Thursday, President Trump announced that the United States would pull out of the Paris Climate Change Agreement created in November of 2015.
Why did the President decide to pull out of the agreement. What were his advisors saying? What does pulling out of the agreement mean for the United States? The rest of the world? And most importantly, what are people saying about the President's decision. Let's start with a clip of the President's statement.
To hear different sides of the story, let's head to the All Sides website. Let's use four articles they posted to learn more about the President's announcement.
After you have read the articles, please head to eBackpack to President Trump's Climate Change Announcement assignment. Submit your opinion of the President's announcement and two reasons that explain why you feel the way you do. |
