AMERICA'S RESPONSE TO A CHANGING WORLD
Your to-do listIt appears the best way to spend our time before we head out on vacation is getting all of you caught up. I've got way too many yellow flags(the icon for a missing assignment) in my gradebook. Let's see if we can change that before we go on break.
Please begin today's class by heading to the Your plan for Monday, 12/21 question on Google Classroom. Let me know what you intend to work on. Once you've done that, please start attacking those assignments. I would love everyone's grade to go up before we leave today.

Pollution in New DelhiWhile India shows signs of rapid development, it is also facing an environmental crisis. Specifically, this time of year sees reports about the increased levels of air pollution in New Delhi. Check out the articles from the link to a Google Search on the topic posted in Google Classroom to look for what the impact of this increased level of pollution are. Once you have done that, how would you people in India adjust their lives to help address the pollution. In your response, be sure to justify why you are asking people to change their behavior in that specific manner.

Comparing Daily Lives in IndiaUsing the Dollar Street Site on India, consider how we brainstormed how we can tell how wealthy someone is when we walk into their home. Walk into the homes of four Indian families and note what you see in nine categories, such as what their kitchen is like or what they use for a toothbrush, phone, or toys, of your choice. You must choose one family from each of the following income groups:

Your to-do listPlease make sure that you have submitted your Surprises from Climate Change assignment. Look over your classmates' submissions and add two more to your own list. When you do, please also note which classmate you got your additional two surprises from. Some science to startThe effects of climate changeUsing a resource on which you can collaborate remotely (Google Slides, Google Docs, Jamboard), create a resource informing people of the impact of climate change on one of the following areas: Oceans, Extreme Weather, Health, Species Migration, Food and Agriculture, Conflict & Security. Use the reading posted below to help you gather information. When you and your teammates have completed your resources, please submit it to Google Classroom. Your homework: Climate Change's impact on MaineConsider the impact of climate change on the planet. What would it be on Maine? Using the same categories we used to look at the world (Oceans, Extreme Weather, Health, Species Migration, Food and Agriculture, and substitute Economy for Conflict and Security). You must have 12 total entries. As you conduct your research please note the impact, what category you would put it in, and what your source is.
Please see Google Classroom for more resources. Your to-do list
Where do our leaders stand?I would like to do one more activity with our policy options. Let's take a look at the policy options and our country's leaders. Working in breakout rooms with some classmates, I would like you to research Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Please find ten examples total that show how each line up with the policy options we examined. Breaking down your assumptionsWe might think we know the best ways to help the planet but some of our assumptions may have also lead us astray. Check out CNN's Climate Change quiz and Google Sustainability's Your Plan site (You can see Google Sustainability's full site here.)
As you work please note five things you learned that surprised you or ran counter to what you thought you knew or changes you might make in your life based on what you learned. Please submit your items to the Surprises from Climate Change question on Google Classroom. Once you have submitted your items, please look over your classmates' submissions, find two more surprises from them, and add them to your own submission. |
